
Shilajit for Women: Research, Special Considerations, Safety
In short: The vast majority of shilajit studies were conducted with men. For women, the most interesting research is a placebo-controlled investigation in postmenopausal women, in which bone density readings were collected over 48 weeks. No authorised health claims exist for shilajit in the EU, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding we advise against taking it as a matter of principle. Why the data on women is particularly thin
Anyone who goes through the shilajit research quickly notices: the best-known human studies, such as those measuring testosterone or sperm parameters, were conducted exclusively with male participants. Results from these studies cannot be transferred to women. At the same time, women's interest in the mountain resin is growing noticeably, driven by social media. The bone density study in postmenopausal women
The currently most relevant investigation with female participants dates from 2022. Here are the key facts, purely as reported:

This study, too, has clear limits: it is a single investigation from a single centre with a small sample, conducted in women with osteopenia, that is, not in healthy women. Surrogate parameters were measured, not everyday endpoints. Independent replication is lacking. The data is not sufficient for authorised health claims.
Minerals: what can be said in a legally clean way
Shilajit resin naturally contains minerals and trace elements. For some of these nutrients, not for shilajit itself, authorised claims exist in the EU. Based on a daily dose of 0.9 g of Vitadote® Shilajit Resin:
- Calcium (72% NRV): Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones.
- Magnesium (108% NRV): Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
- Iron (31% NRV): Iron contributes to normal oxygen transport in the body.
These statements refer exclusively to the respective minerals. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important; food supplements do not replace them.
Safety: what women should know before taking it
More important than any discussion of studies are the practical safety points:

- Natural iron content: If you take iron supplements or have an iron storage disorder (haemochromatosis), talk to your doctor before use.
- Medication: If you take medication regularly, such as thyroid hormones, the question belongs in your doctor's consultation.

Social media trends viewed soberly
On social media, many things are attributed to shilajit in connection with women, from skin and hair to cycle and hormones. Across the board, the following applies: there are neither authorised claims nor robust human studies with these endpoints. The only larger investigation in women is the bone density study described above. In this category, you can recognise reputable information by the fact that it names this gap openly instead of filling it with promises.
Taking it in practice
The same basic rules apply to women as to all adults: the recommended intake of the product in question is decisive, the stated daily amount must not be exceeded, and starting with a smaller amount has proven itself in practice.
